Meet the Team

Lindsay joined the ABU in 2006, acting as Executive Assistant/Director of Operations since 2016. She is the mother of three adventurous, lively, and fun-loving kids. A graduate of Virginia Tech (VT), achieving VT literary recognition, Lindsay is an avid writer and poetry enthusiast. In her free time, Lindsay enjoys traveling, photography, rock shows, the outdoors, and her plethora of animals.

Jim Surgener is the Lifelong Learning Level 2 Coordinator, and Policy Coordinator, for the Board. When he is not assisting Diplomates with their recertification requirements, he enjoys spending as much time as possible participating in activities with his family.

Charlie joined the ABU in 2012 as the IT Coordinator. In his role, Charlie keeps the computer systems at ABU running, while always keeping a finger on the pulse of new technologies, to provide ABU Staff and Diplomates with the best technological experience possible. In his free time, Charlie is a competitive Pokémon the card game player, DJ, loving husband to his wife, Amy, and father to their two children, and a multitude of pets.

Matthew “Matt” Fielding-Rivera serves as a Systems Engineer at the American Board of Urology, a role he began in the fall of 2024. Before joining the Board, Matt dedicated 10.5 years to the University of Virginia Health System, where he held diverse roles. His responsibilities ranged from patient transportation and access to serving on the Epic Medical Record system service desk during his final five years. In this position, he provided technical support, resolved production user issues, and managed security access for new employees during their onboarding process.  Matt resides in Charlottesville with his wife, their two cats—Cinnamon Bun and Eevee—and their corgi, Roy. In his free time, he is actively involved in hosting community events, engaging with local organizations, and traveling with his wife.

Wulan joined the ABU in 2010 and promptly acquired the role of Meetings Coordinator in 2012. Her savvy negotiating skills are untouchable. Before joining the ABU, Wulan resided in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she graduated from the University of Indonesia and, subsequently, taught English at a private elementary school. Wu is the mother of a fiery and charming young lady, Skye. She is passionate about traveling, history, food, and fashion.

An extroverted Midwesterner, Cindy has been a Staff Associate at the ABU since 2015, where her communication skills, Anthropology degree, and propensity to serve the common good all nicely come together. She handles verification provision for the Board and contributes writing and editorial work, as needed. As the daughter of a retired urologist and nurse, she engages well with the constituency and even appreciates their humor(!). When not assisting Diplomates and Candidates, Cindy enjoys outdoor activities, art, cooking, and volunteering.

Pam Beasley is a Staff Associate at the American Board of Urology. She joined the American Board of Urology in 2019. Her previous work experience includes employment at the University of Virginia Department of Urology, as a medical coder. Pam is a native of the charming Nelson County, Virginia. Pam lives on the scenic Rockfish River, with her dog and her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors and is an avid birdwatcher.
